1. Pflanzen App überfordert
Auf meine neue Pflanzen-App lasse ich so schnell nix kommen! Alles hat sie bisher richtig gemacht, in Deutschland wie in Thailand. Habe schon einige Apps zuvor getestet und war meistens schnell enttäuscht. Jetzt bin ich hier im Norden Thailands auf einen Baum gestoßen, den bekommt sie einfach nicht hin. Je nach Foto und Ausschnitt, kommen fünf verschiedene Vorschläge und alle beziehen sich auf andere Bäume. Vielleicht kann jemand da weiterhelfen?
Help me, my plant app is overwhelmed!
Oh, I was so excited about my new plant app! It worked perfect so far, in Germany and in Thailand. I’ve already tested a few apps before and was always quite disappointed, but this one … Now I came across with a strange tree here in the north of Thailand, I never saw before. My new app respond with around five different suggestions, but they all refer to other trees I know. Maybe someone can help?
2. Lecker Longantörtchen
Nee, ich und Kuchen, vergiss es! Pikant und scharf, so soll es sein! Aber ein wenig probiere ich hin wieder ganz gern vom Süßen, meistens aus Neugier. So wie dieses super leckere Longan Törtchen im Café Bee & Rose. Dezente Süße. Eine wunderbare sanfte Glasur verbindet die fruchtigen Longans aufs Feinste mit dem knusprigen Boden. Longan, bekannt? Ich habe sie hier in Thailand kennengelernt, sie erinnern ein wenig an Litschi.

Me and cake, forget it! Spicy and salty, that is what catches me. Anyway, from time to time I like to taste the sweet things as well. IF they are not too sweet! For example this super delicious little longan tart we had at Café Bee & Rose. Subtle sweetness. An amazing soft glaze combined the fruity longans with the crispy bottom at it´s best! – Longans, you know? I met them here in North Thailand first, you can compare them a bit with lychee. More from that special fruit another time.
3. Weißer Büffel
Schau her, ein weißer Büffel! Hab ich noch nie gesehen, geschweige denn gestreichelt. Ula, die Inhaberin eines Dorfladens, ist nun Mama eines jungen, weißen Büffels. Jung! Bin mal gespannt, wie die beiden sich so miteinander entwickeln, wenn der Büffel Fahrt auf nimmt. Übrigens: einen jungen, weißen (fleischfarbenen) Büffel zu streicheln, das fühlt sich an, als würdest du ein großes Hausschwein streicheln.
Für zum Klugschnacken: Ein weißer Büffel ist in Thailand ein Symbol für Weisheit. So ein Sumpfbüffel(!) ist mit vier bis fünf Jahren erwachsen und wiegt dann rund 400 kg.
White buffalo
Well, look, a white buffalo! I’ve never seen one, certainly not petted a buffalo at all, no matter which color. Village shop owner Ura is now a proud mother of a young white buffalo. Young! I’m really curious how both of them get along with each other when the buffalo picks up speed in growing. By the way: petting a white buffalo is like petting a large domestic pig.
May useless to know: A white buffalo is a symbol of wisdom in Thailand. Adults, four to five years old, weight around 400 kg.
4. Zimtäpfel sind reif! – Thai: Noi Na น้อยหน่า
Bekannt? Ein anderer Name wäre Chirimoya (Cherimoya). Hab ich auch erst hier kennengelernt, wie so viele Früchte und Gemüsesorten. Eine seltsame, sympathische Frucht mit vielen glatten, großen Kernen. Es macht Spaß, sie mit der Zunge im Mund auszusortieren. Das weiße Fruchtfleisch ist cremig, breiig, süß und lecker, mitunter ist eine leichte Vanillenote dabei. Erwähnenswert ist ihr Gehalt an Vitamin C, B1, B6 und ihr hoher Ballaststoffgehalt. Sicherer Gesundheitstipp: Auf keinen Fall die Schale und die Kerne zerkauen und essen!
It´s custard apple time!
Do you know this fruit? It also sometimes goes by the name Chirimoya (Cherimoya). Like a lot of fruits, I met this one the first time here in Thailand. An odd, enjoyable fruit with many smooth, large seeds. It’s fun sorting them out with the tongue in the mouth. The white pulp is creamy, sweet and tasty, sometimes with a hint of vanilla. Vitamine C, B1, B6 and a lot of high fibers are the remarkable substances. Safe health facts: Don´t chew and eat the peel and seeds!
5. Fast ein Kuss …
Unser Senior Streuner trifft beim gemeinsamen Rundgang auf ein Kälbchen. Es wird beidseitig geschnuppert, geküsst, aber der zündende Funke hat dann wohl gefehlt.
